SOUTH AFRICAN CORPS OF SIGNALS
BLACKENED BRONZE & WHITE METAL
1941 - 1945
The above illustration of the South African Corps of Signals Blackened Bronze and White Metal cap badge was I believe the Officer's version of what could be called the "Economy" badge which was issued during World War II.
As with the Blackened Lead "Economy" cap badge that appears elsewhere in this site, the shortage of material during the war necessitated that a change from the straight forward Bronze OSD cap badge be made to a distinctive but cheaper alternative.
