SOUTH AFRICAN CORPS OF SIGNALS

OFFICER'S PATTERN,  BRONZE.

1923 – 1961

On the 1st November 1923 the South African Corps of Signals (Active Citizen Force) was established. An alliance with the Royal Corps of Signals was formed in 1926 and lasted until 31st May 1961.

This badge of the South African Corps of Signals is identical to the original Corps pattern of the 24th March 1921 except for the lettering around the edge. I am advised by Cliff Lord that this badge was worn right up to the time the new Republic was formed in 1961.

It is interesting to note that on the left had side the lettering is in English and gives the title of South African Corps of Signals.

On the right hand side the lettering is in Afrikaans and gives the title of South African Sein Korps (Signal Corps).
