On August 1st 1974 the South African Defence Force was reorganised with the inception of 7th South African Infantry Division and 8th South African Infantry Division.

With regard to 7th South African Infantry Division this was made up of 71,72 and 73 Motorised Brigades.

The above Button badge was worn by members of 73 Motorised Brigade Signal Unit between 1980 and 1994 at which time the "Button" badge disappeared just leaving the "Balkie" bar at the bottom of all unit badfges.
