SOUTH AFRICAN EASTERN PROVINCE
COMMAND SIGNALS
ANODISED
1980-1994
The South African Defence Force Corps of Signals had different insignia or 'Buttons' for different Provinces or Signal Commands. This innovation seems to have come out of the blue so to speak and took the place of the 'Balkie'. It only lasted for a short period of time and the disappeared again just as quickly.
In the above illustration you can see the normal 'Jimmy' with the S and A at the bottom, but where the crown would normally go is the Signals Command emblem. In this case it is of an elephant of the Eastern Command.
