ROYAL CORPS OF SIGNALS
(SUBDUED).
OTHER RANKS, PLATED PARKERISED METAL.
1970 - 2007
With the advent of the trouble in Northern Ireland it became necessary for troops to wear subdued versions of their Regimental Cap Badges. Some units painted their badges but the picture above is of a Plated Parkerised Metal badge that neither shone, chipped nor blistered in use.
The Subdued badge as depicted above was introduced in 1970 some two years after the Northern Ireland situation started. On 31st July 2007 this theatre ceased to be an operation zone thus ending a thirty-nine year period and the longest single active area in the history of the British Forces.
Never an official Ordnance issue item, these badges were purchased by units in some cases and individuals from a UK manufacturer.
